Maid of Honor Duties and the Flower Girl Dresses
There are many responsibilities and details that a bride must look to when planning the rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony and reception celebrating her special occasion. These details are numerous and can be quite overwhelming, which is why the assistance of a maid of honor is often employed. Having a reliable close friend to help take care of the arrangements surrounding such an event can make things run much more smoothly and alleviate a lot of pressure on the bride as well.
The idea of wedding jitters or cold feet affect many people who are facing such big changes to their life and having the support of a good friend who is working to reduce the anxiety level of the bride is important. The maid of honor can participate in almost any aspect of the wedding preparations. Shopping for a wedding dress, going to fittings, planning the table settings, finding suitable music and planning a wedding shower are all fair game for the maid of honor.
She may also be expected to help greet the guests and arrange for transportation to and from the airport as people arrive for the special event. There are many things to be taken care of and the idea behind a maid of honor is to have someone unaffected by the wedding jitters taking care of all the little details. Though many of these details include working with people, one of the most looked forward to is choosing flower girl dresses and working directly with the flower girl. There are many responsibilities which a flower girl is expected to perform, but since they are often between four and eight years of age, it is helpful to give them an example to follow who will also coach them on how to act and what to do at each stage of the wedding ceremony.
The bride will most likely choose the flower girl dresses with the assistance of the maid of honor since the bride knows the individual more intimately. However, with all of the planning and preparation taking place, it is difficult for the bride to follow up with the flower girl after that. The maid of honor will often take care of tasks such as making sure the flower girl dresses are properly fitted and that they are cleaned and pressed after the wedding ceremony if necessary. Though there are many receptions which are held right after the wedding ceremony, there are many instances where it is held the following day or even sometimes a week later. Since children are naturally energetic it is important for the maid of honor to make sure the flower girl dresses are clean and ready for the reception.
There is also a lot of coaching involved in order to help the flower girl feel comfortable performing her duties with hundred of eyes watching. Being prepared to stand quietly after walking down the aisle ahead of the bride may be difficult especially for a younger flower girl, so the maid of honor may also need to make sure that space is reserved for the flower girl’s family at the front of the hall in order for her to have a place to sit once she has preceded the bride. There is also the matter of the rehearsal dinner, which is a necessary event for the flower girl to attend.
This is a more formal occasion where the flower girl gets to practice her responsibilities for the ceremony, however, it may be important for her to learn some etiquette protocols in order to be better prepared for the dinner and wedding reception celebrations. Though the flower girl is young, she is a very prominent figure who is included in all the wedding events and even the pictures surrounding the occasion. As such, the maid of honor may need to help her understand what is taking place, how to act, and why it is important to do so. Having a trusted individual help take care of the many details surrounding such an important occasion is a sanity saver for the bride and a great opportunity to bond with the flower girl while completing many other duties that will help the festivities proceed smoothly.
