Making an oatmeal mask
Home remedies for acne are better in the treatment of pimply skin than harsh creams. This is because, when used appropriately, homemade acne treatments are mild and act gently, bringing progressive improvement. Furthermore, using them often pushes a person to be more meticulous about personal care and grooming. Going to the kitchen to mix up a concoction that one will apply to the face or put in the bathwater requires greater engagement and dedication than devoting ten seconds to opening up a tube of cream and dabbing it on the face. The routine involved in preparing home remedies is enjoyable once one gets into it. It could be a fun thing that friends do in the kitchen together during a weekend sleepover or a fun bonding session for mothers and daughters.
One of the more common home remedies for acne is oatmeal. Oatmeal can be used as a facial mask. Oatmeal masks are not only surprisingly easy to make, they are also very gentle on the skin. The oatmeal acts like an astringent, which is to say that it cleanses the skin, making its pores smaller. Oatmeal also helps to exfoliate dry skin and to eliminate excess skin oil and bacteria. These are all factors in the development and perseverance of acne, hence eliminating them opens up the road to healthy, glowing skin.
Funnily enough, the steps involved in making an oatmeal mask are the exact steps for making a healthy, hearty breakfast of oatmeal porridge. One could kill two birds with one stone by making a pot of oatmeal for breakfast and for a facial. The only necessary ingredients for the mask are oatmeal and water. But some have been known to add extra ingredients like honey, cinnamon, tea tree oil or yogurt, each of which is beneficial in the treatment of acne. Honey has anti-microbial properties; hence, it helps to eliminate bacteria. It also helps make the oatmeal stickier, which is ideal for any face mask. Tea tree oil has antimicrobial properties too.
If one follows the simple recipe, then the first basic step involves bringing water to the boil. Subsequently oatmeal should be added to it and the mixture should be allowed to boil for two minutes. To every cup of water boiled, ¾ cup of oatmeal should be added. After the two minute boil, the pot should be taken off the burner and left to cool. It wouldn’t hurt to eat some of the oatmeal for breakfast while waiting for the rest to cool. Once cool, the oatmeal can be applied to the face. Its efficacy can ultimately be compared to that of other home remedies for acne.
